Snapshot of a Change (Framed on Sunset Red)

What red and drowsy caverns breach
The vulcanous landscape of despair
When into utter reflection pool
Narcissus bequeathed his stare

And the masses watch on chessboard checkered
Unhalted by your stature
What Echo did reverb to thou
To your face so fully capture

I am a shadow merely
Feigned to be stared upon by my maker
Though more sane and comical
While insubstantial in my nature

The tread of dark oblivion is my only discernment
I hear black and stark and desert like cascades
I am not tempted by the hollers of Sirens
Or gorgeous stony men intent on bent on -

Power
Lust
Prowess

The wax of my foundation
Bleeds with the women who hunger for him
Those he butchered as veal: soft and untouched
Unvarnished by the father's herded hands

The corded knot of fate unwiled
The clouds kept rolling by
And in a wisp of some grey pageant
The sun unlearnt to fly

The flowers on your temple mighty
Though in the breeze did sway
While bloodied sun hurries westward
The finale on disturbéd day

I was under water that hour
When you gazed into your soul
I gasped when sky went blank
Thunder peeled
And you found not spirit but a hole
